Position: Senior scientist, Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia, Bulgaria and Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz, Germany

Specialization: Scaling, Statistical physics, Molecular dynamics, Quantum mechanics, Thermodynamics

At the NANOCON´23 conference Prof. Andrey Milchev will present the lecture “Unidirectional droplet propulsion onto gradient substrates without external energy supply” in Session B - Industrial and Environmental Applications of Nanomaterials.

Personal Background and Education:
Prof. Milchev graduated in theoretical physics, University of Leningrad, USSR, (1970). He received his Ph.D. in Solid State Physics at the University of Leipzig, Germany, in 1977. From the year 1979, he works at the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in Sofia, currently at a Senior Scientist position.  In the period 2006–2012, he was a visiting professor at the University of Sofia, Dept. of Chemistry, and a visiting professor at the University of Georgia, Athens, Greece (1994–2002).

He is also a guest researcher at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany, in the Department of Statistical Physics and Soft Matter.

Research interests:
His research investigates the link between Chemical physics and topics such as Polymer adsorption that cross with problems in Absorption. Andrey Milchev has included themes like Radius, Phase and Density functional theory in his Liquid crystal study. His work investigates the relationship between Persistence length and topics such as Molecular physics that intersect with problems in the Distribution function.

In his most recent research, the most cited papers focused on Quantum mechanics, Polymer and Thermodynamics. His work in Mechanics addresses issues such as Nanotube, which are connected to fields such as Nanopore. The concepts of his Polymer study are interwoven with issues in Chemical physics, Molecular physics, Nanoparticle and Adsorption.

Summary of publication activity:
More than 277 scientific articles, which have received over 9,400 citations; H-index of 51 (Google Scholar, February 2023).
